1- Why should I use Orcid ? arrow_circle_up

Orcid is a system allowing to associate a perennial identifier to a researcher in order to avoid all the problems that the simple use of the name poses: homonymy, name change during a career …

It is more and more used. For example, it is taken into account when registering a DOI. It is also used by many research projects at European or international level.

Thus, a large number of scientists already have an Orcid.

So we followed this trend and decided that NorthStar would use Orcid as an authentication system. Moreover, this exempts NorthStar from storing certain confidential information such as a password.

2- Can I use an authentication system other than ORCID? arrow_circle_up

No, at the moment only ORCID is supported by NorthStar. Creating an Orcid account is easy and will allow you to use it in other applications.

1- Where is the "Save" Button ? arrow_circle_up

In NorthStar, the information is saved automatically. This can be immediately, for example, when adding a Run or when deleting a Target. It can be after a few seconds when making a change to a text box. At the top right of the screen, you can see the date and time of the last save. You can also see a message when an automatic backup is in progress. However, we have put a "Save" button. It only activates when a text box is modified and for the few seconds before the automatic backup. It is therefore globally useless.
